This book provides the sources of names of almost all of the 600-odd streets in the area of the former City of Box Hill. The boundaries of that area are Union Road in the west; Middleborough Road in the east; Koonung Creek in the north; and Highbury Road in the south. This book relates the many stories that lie behind the names of most of the streets within Box Hill. The origins of these names cover the entire period of European settlement in the area ─ from the first settlers, of the 1840s, up to the present day; a variety of world events such as wars; as well as local events such as the plein-air artists of the 1880s.
